OPEN ACCESS WEEK (24th October, 2017)





The Open Access Week is coming soon on 24th October, 2017 with the objective of the Open Access Week is to increase the awareness of Open Access and its components which include Open Science, Open Education and Open Data, which will in turn, improve on the visibility of scholarship in the University by way of increased scholarly citations, among others.

The event will include Radio Talk Show and a Workshop at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

About the Event
The Open Conference Satellite event is a university-based conference program which will be held over the course of 2 days targeting University academic staff and postgraduate students. The program would comprise 2 lectures, 4 workshop lectures and an open access policy formulation, all focusing on improving knowledge of the open access in University of Nigeria. The lectures would be delivered by international and national experts in open access.
The conference will be held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka campus, Enugu State. University scholars and postgraduate students are free to participate in the lectures on the first day. The main aim of this conference will be to promote implementation strategies for sustenance of Open Access in University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Conference Goals and Objectives
The specific goal of this project is to promote implementation strategies for sustenance of Open Access in University of Nigeria.

However, the Open Con Event is aimed at achieving the following explicit objectives:
1.        To develop and implement an awareness program focused on the open access philosophy in UNN.
2.        To introduce UNN scholars and other participants, to the benefits of Open Access in scholarly communication
3.        To enlighten participants on self-archiving, Institutional Repository, and Web ranking
4.        To educate researchers on Copyright Policies and Self-archiving platforms such as Bepress, Educational Blogs, etc.
5.        To unveil the secrets of  increasing the Google Scholar citation counts
6.        To train participants on Self-Archiving platforms and Publisher’s Website for Copyright Policies.
7.        To train UNN scholars and Postgraduates on Open Source software for scholarly publication
8.        To introduce participants to Creative Commons – the global community that breaks down the walls that keep people from sharing their knowledge.
